Adams was raised in Castle Rock Colorado, as the youngest child of seven. Her father was in U.S. service in Italy. In the early 1990s, Adams began performing and dancing professionally with the Boulder Dinner Theatre as well as the Country Dinner Playhouse. In Minnesota she performed at a regional theater where her character in Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) was a comedy documentary that focused on pages of beauty. Her screen debut was a huge success with the role of an unfriendly, but obnoxious contestant, Janet relocated into Los Angeles where she began professional acting. She is also the mother of Kelly Curtis & Jamie Lee Curtis. Leigh's film career began after signing a MGM deal in the middle of 1940s. She was discovered by actress Norma Shearer. She appeared in several popular movies in the subsequent decade including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960) and Living It Up (a Martin and Lewis film from 1954).
