Richard B. Cheney, a distinguished public servant and a businessman is the vice president. Cheney is a familiar figure within Washington's political world. George W. Bush, the new President of the U.S. will be Cheney's fourth. Bush announced the nomination of Cheney to be his vice president running partner in July of 2000. Bush cited Cheney's wisdom as well as his judgment and expertise. Dick Cheney was a chief of Staff to Presidents, was a member of the United States Congress as Secretary of Defense, and served the country in a variety of roles. Cheney is an honest man who is respected by Republicans and Democrats. Cheney said he views his job as a trustworthy yet discreet advisor to the Bush administration. In accepting the Republican vice presidential nomination Cheney declared that he's looking forward to working with an administration that will strive for the accomplishment of goals through working across the political aisle and working alongside political adversaries in good faith and common goals. Richard Bruce Cheney was born in Lincoln Nebraska on January 30 1941 the son of Richard Herbert Cheney and the former Marjorie Lauraine Dickey. At the age of 13, Richard Bruce and his family moved from Nebraska to Casper (in Wyoming, the State of Wyoming) where his father served as director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's land conservation districts.
